FAMILY OWNED and operated, Lewis & McConnell Optometrist was established in December 2002 as a partnership between Optometrists Peter Lewis and Stewart McConnell. The origins of the practice stem from 1963 when Ivor Lewis began practicing from premises at 310 Stephensons Road . Peter Lewis relocated the business to its present position in 1996 and with plenty of easy parking and visibility within Mount Waverley Village, business has not looked back. Peter has been in practice for 40 years, mostly here in Mount Waverley, working in partnership with his father and then with Stewart McConnell. Peter enjoys a regular game of golf and has a quiet interest in following the Melbourne Football Club. Peter has many clinical interests and enjoys helping his patients obtain their best visual outcome be it with spectacles, contact lenses or advice on eye health and maintenance of good vision. Since 2004 Peter has been a regular visitor to Timor and Sumba as a volunteer, providing eyecare and helping establish the infrastructure that has allowed the training of East Timorese health workers to provide eye care to their local community - in June 2014 he was rewarded with an OAM for his services to Optometry, in particular for his work in Timor.
Stewart began working with Peter in 1997 and became a partner in December 2002 – he has since taken over the practice as a sole owner in 2015. Stewart is also a "local" having grown up in Glen Waverley. He played baseball with Waverley and is a passionate follower of the Carlton Football Club and sport in general. He has a keen interest in paediatric vision, which encompasses all aspects of vision development of children. Stewart has been a long time wearer of contact lenses and his personal experiences, along with extensive training make him an expert for your contact lens requirements.His first exposure to wearing contact lenses as a teenager drove his ambition to become an Optometrist.
PRACTICE MANAGER. Denise has been working at L&M for over 25 years. She has many years of experience in all areas of frame and lens selection, office administration and patient care. Denise is well known to many of our patients and is a strong believer in customer service aiming at all times to go that extra yard to help our patients with the challenges that present.
Optical Technician/ Dispenser. Shaun has worked in the industry for more than 30 years! Shaun is an optical genius. He has literally saved the local community hundreds of thousand of $ with his ability to save/repair frames over the years. Shaun has an extensive understanding of lens technologies and keeps up to date with new advances in both frame and lens designs. He is an expert in frame selection and adjustments to help achieve the perfect fit. Shaun teaches and helps our other team members with their product knowledge and more complex challenges.
OPTICAL ASSISTANT & RECEPTIONIST. Leanne is another highly valued staff member and much loved by our patients - most often she will be your first point of contact and you will be welcomed either on the phone, or when you come in the door. She has been with us for more than 10 years and has a great knowledge and eye for fashion.
Anne has extensive experience in the Optical industry. She is now part time for us as she enjoys an extra round of golf or two each week now! A nursing background helps Anne with patient care and she enjoys helping with that "hard to find" frame for patients with different needs.
Susan has just recently begun her optical journey and is fast learning the ropes under the expert tutoring of Shaun, Denise and Leanne. Having worn glasses and contact lenses she is well placed to understand your visual needs.
